I
started training Kyokushin Karate in April 1986 under Sensei Gary Bufton
at Cardiff School Of Self Defense. During my training I have participated
in many of the Kyokushin Karate activities - such as Waterfall training,
demos, Summer Camps, courses and teaching classes when required.
I have been training regularly since I took up karate, except when I injured
my knee in November1991 during a knock-down fight between Wales and Sweden
in Newport. For 6 months, I didn’t know how serious the injury was
and continued training intermittently until I was told that the injury needed
surgery (the injury described to me as Paul Gascoine’s injury). I
had the operation in October 1992, and was back training in April 1994.
Luckily I have not had any further problems. In 1996 I gained Shodan under
Shihan Claronino.
I started training my colleagues at work in basic self defense. The classes
were quite popular and attracted a regular following.
In June 1999 summer camp I gained my Nidan.
My ambition after gaining my Nidan is to help in teaching karate at Cardiff
Dojo and restarting my classes at work after the summer break, and helping
to attract more people to the Kyokushin way. Also I would like to get involved
in match refereeing, both in knock-down and clicker fighting.
I gained a B.Sc in Statistics from Baghdad University and came to UK on
a study leave, 1980 I studied at UCW Aberystwyth where I successfully completed
my M.Sc. degree in Computer Science.
A part from karate I also enjoy weight training, squash, snooker, computer
games, and also a good night out with the lads.
